Elections are the backbone of any democracy. Being the biggest democracy in the world, India has a very comprehensive and complex system of electing people’s representatives (members of parliament – MPs, and members of the legislative assembly – MLAs, who, then takes decisions for the betterment of the people and the development of the country. As the process of election is quite complex, there are laws laid down by the independent body, the Election Commission of India. This body is appointed by the President of the country and is responsible for conducting free and fair elections in the country.
This course is intended to equip the students with the election laws of India. The design of the course is such that the candidates can gradually learn about the laws and do further research about the various aspects of democracy and other political scenarios of the country.
This course is useful to person(s) having an interest in politics and who want to further strengthen their knowledge about the election laws of India. We recommend this course to political science and law graduates as it will complement their existing academic scope and build acumen to help them further in their careers. This course is also beneficial to any political researcher, consultant, analyst, and even the teams of existing and potential political office bearers.
The evaluation and assessment of the candidates will be done through periodic tests – the multiple choice (MCQ) questions, descriptive questions, and project work. There will also be special projects/seminars conducted from time to time as deemed necessary by indiastatedu.

Chapter Topic
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book. It usually begins with: “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.”
The Constitution of India, as adopted on 26 November, 1949, proclaimed India as ‘Sovereign Democratic Republic’ in its Preamble. Subsequently, the Preamble was amplified as ‘Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic’ by the Constitution (Forty-second Amendment) Act, 1976 w.e.f. 03 January 1977, so as to add the words ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ in the Preamble. The Supreme Court has observed in Kesvananda Bharti v State of Kerala AIR 1973 SC 1461 that the Preamble is an integral part of the Constitution and the Constitution should be read and interpreted in the light of grand and noble vision expressed in the Preamble. India is the largest democracy in the world and also one of the stablest democracies among, as per democracy index, 167 democratic countries in the world. The magnitude of democracy in India can be better imagined than described from the fact that the electorate of India is bigger than the total population of the entire European continent.
